The tell

Glassy blue-gray, often shot through with bubbles or frozen froth. It is not a rock. It is iron-smelting waste from the Leland furnace, 1870 to 1884.

Man-made, and that is the appeal rather than a mark against it. Leland and Fishtown are where it comes from, and it is finite: nobody is making any more.
